Maybe it’s the curly locks. Or those blue-green eyes. Maybe even that boyish charm. Or perhaps it’s the emotionally raw vocals, stellar guitar skills, and riveting performances that get us every time.
Andy Brown has emerged a must-see (and hear) performer on the Canadian music scene. Touted as a performer that ‘gets into your head and heart’, the Galaxie Rising Star winner has a contemporary folk-rock style all his own, taking you on a lyrical journey that transcends a realm torn between love, happiness, and sorrow.
His hit song 'Ashes' was featured in season 2 of Rookie Blue (ABC/Global), and only a couple of hours after the episode, Brown’s song and album landed #1 on iTunes Canada’s singer-songwriter chart and the melancholy love song reached #2 on the chart in the United States.
Brown’s honesty as a song writer, expressive showmanship, and soaring vocals has made him a fan-favourite wherever he performs, from a quaint theatre in North Carolina to the sprawling hall of Montreal's Corona Theatre.
Brown has turned heads with his band’s sophomore album, False Alarm (August 2009), a wonderful blend of belt-out ballads, folk-rock, and pop-infused hits. The band’s visceral energy on-stage is contagious and has landed them at some of the countries top music festivals (Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, NXNE, Indie Week, Canadian Music Week). 'Crazy', the first single from the album has landed Brown as a finalist in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition, was scooped up by 100+ radio stations across the country, and landed #1 on the nationally syndicated East Coast Countdown.
North American voters and a slew of industry professionals crowned Brown the winner of Taylor Guitars and Elixir Strings ‘Test Drive’ music competition. Andy was also awarded Male Recording Artist, Emerging Artist, and Pop Recording of the Year for False Alarm in his home province of New Brunswick.
Brown is currently working on collaborations and pre-production for his next album, Tinman, to be released early fall 2012.
